New American Idol Show
Fantasia Barrino, who only has the second best Disney movie-inspired stripper’s name (Bambi is where the real magic happens), was pronounced the winner of the third season of Fox’s American Idol game show. Despite the fact that a black singer won, executives at Fox are still stinging over accusations of racism that came earlier in the season. “You know, it hurts. On the one hand, I don’t think the show is racist, but on the other hand, African Americans have only won 66% of the competitions we’ve had here. Perhaps it’s time they were allowed to compete in an arena that isn’t biased against them,” said Simon Cowell, the show’s creator and producer.
Sometime later this week, Fox is expected to announce that filming has begun on their new reality game show: African-American Idol. The show will exclusively feature black contestants, and will sport a musical style with a bit more soul than rock ‘n roll. Scheduled guests include Janet Jackson and Usher. In addition, Fox plans to use a sophisticated voting system to ensure that all call-in votes are cast by those of the darker persuasion. After calling the toll-free number, callers will be prompted to answer questions that only a black American would know. Fox remains tightlipped as to the actual questions, but insists that they will provide a sufficient layer of protection against potential racist callers.
