New Design is Live

The new design of this site is now live. So how do you like it? While I am certainly not going to stop tinkering with it, I thought it was ready to unveil to the public. Comments and/or criticism are welcomed. Tell me what you like, what you don’t like, and what you’d like to see.

Very nice! 😀 I think it’s a lot cleaner and easier to read. I love how you did the CSS drop down archives. How’d ya do that? (I’m still trying to understand CSS – I think I’ve seen tutorials about how to do that kind of stuff – but thought I’d ask, since it’s probably at your fingertips) :)

I started with this, and messed with it endlessly until it looked how I wanted in Mozilla, IE6, and Opera 7.23. It is basically the same idea as A List Apart’s Suckerfish Dropdowns. The best part is that it is simply an unordered list. Check the source code! And in Mozilla and Opera, it doesn’t even use any JavaScript.

While it is very cool, it is also a pain in the butt to get the CSS right. You have to use child selectors to hide things from IE, and what makes it work in one browser breaks it in another. I can’t tell you how happy I was once I reloaded the page in all three browsers and it looked the same.

I like it Mark. It looks nice. Its a much cleaner design than what you had before.

And I agree, the archives menu is cool.

At first, a writer’s characters are reflections of himself. Somewhere down the line, it becomes uncertain who is reflecting whom. Just don’t start identifying too closely with your female characters, kay? 😉

The ‘read comment here’ is by far my favorite feature with the ‘Welcome back’ feature my second. And yes it is a much cleaner layout.

  1. […] Okay, off on a tangent there. But let’s just say that after my latest redesign I was ready to strangle to death the designers of CSS and the coders for Internet Explorer. Actually… why not just lock both groups in a room and let them battle to the death? They must HATE each other! […]
