NYT: U.N. Scandal Investigation Slowed
The investigation into the United Nation’s oil-for-food scam has reportedly met resistance from an accounting firm and a French bank according to the New York Times.
The investigation into the estimated $2 billion skimmed from the program into Saddam’s pockets implicates several individuals around the world who profited from the scam.
Secretary General Kofi Annan expressed concern that the investigations were harming the U.N.
“There is no doubt that the constant campaign has, and the discussions have, hurt the U.N.,” Mr. Annan said at the United Nations, according to Reuters. “And that’s why we want to get to the bottom of it and clear it as quickly as possible.”

Some have suggested that Annan may have been involved, as the director of the program reported directly to him. Many are calling for him to step down.
