“Pretend to be Gay” Day

Anyone who knows me or reads this site knows that I have no beef with homosexuals. But the local chapter of the Gay Straight Alliance annoys with their idiocy.

When they merely preach tolerance and open-mindedness, I back them… but all I’ve ever seen them do is stupid P.R. stunts.

Take “Same-Sex Hand-Holding Day,” held many times a year. Campus is swarmed with straight homophiles who giggle as they prance around campus holding hands. “Look at us! We’re making a difference! Pay attention to me!”

I’m very much reminded of the Simpsons:

Gay men: We’re here. We’re queer. Get used to it.
Lisa: We are used to it. You do this every year.
Gay man: Aww, you take all the fun out of it.

The Simpsons

Furthermore, the statement by their group that they hope the event will make same-sex hand-holding “normal” because straight people are doing it very much implies that something cannot be socially acceptable unless it is done by a majority of people.

I’ve met people who are members of the Gay-Straight Alliance. The ones I have met are stupid, shallow attention whores. They are the types who say things like “you never know if you’re not gay until you try it” and “my best friend, who is gay, thinks McDonalds is poison.” They inject sexuality into conversations that have no need of it. They embrace the movement for homosexual tolerance as a way to justify juvenile attention-getting tricks. Piss off, you phonies.

Note: Many schools have such organizations, and this isn’t meant as a statement against all of them. I am only speaking from my experiences with this single group.
