Non-Apology

On what planet is this a valid apology?

I offer my apology for those offended by my words.

Senator Dick Durbin

So, he’s not sorry for his words (which compared the actions of U.S. soldiers to Nazis et al.), he’s only sorry if you were offended.

Look, if you’re not sorry, stick to your statement! A non-apology masquerading as the real thing like this just makes you look weak, and acts as a slap in the face to the people hurt by your words.

  1. An apology is when you’re sincerely regret having said or done something and wish you could correct the damage or go back to the way things were prior.

What Durbin has done is show regret that people were offended.

    There’s a difference.

I’m a dem and agree on the Durbin deal. I also am appalled at Howard Dean and Harry Reid. Why can’t we all just get along? (Sorry for the naievete.)
