In practical reality what the old thinking on the UN boils down to is this: “War is bad, the worst thing imaginable. So, as long as you don’t go to war you can butcher as many people as you want, torture as many people as you want, crush as many minorities as you want, treat your women like chattel, imprison as many homosexuals as you like, break as many bones and chop off as many limbs as you want, and obliterate every human freedom: just don’t bother your neighbors.”
