Subscribe to Comments 2.0 for WordPress has moved out of beta with the release of version 2.0 final. Only minor fixes over beta-2, so this is an optional upgrade.

    Congratulations, great work, can’t ell you (well I guess I have alreadyt tried, at times) how useful this is!

  2. [...] Also, you can now Subscribe to Comments to stay on top of the Hisses from the Snake Pit. [...]

  3. I don’t know what happened but it no longer notifies anyone. I thought maybe the new version would fix it, but it still does not send out any emails. It used to work, so all I can think of is one of the upgrades to 1.5. I am currently running 1.5.1.3.

    Any help?

    Uncooperative,

    I tested it out on your site and it is working for me! I got the notification 3 seconds after leaving a comment. One of many things could be preventing you from getting notifications:

    1) you won’t ever get notified of your own comments… so you’ll have to use 2 addresses to test out the functionality (one to subscribe, one to trigger an e-mail)
    2) you can’t subscribe to comments using the e-mail address of the author of the post, or the e-mail address of the wordpress administrator.
    3) could be that the e-mails are getting blocked by a spam filter or an ISP

  5. It turns out it just took an unbelievable long time for the email to reach its destination. I mean like 5-10 minutes. So it through me off while checking it. Sorry for the false alarm.

    I really enjoy your plugin. I like a lot plugins written in that way, just install and go :)

    That’s a shame I cannot use it, since it doesn’t work with php 5; it’s coded in the php 4 way ! I had to install the php 4 to access the admin’s options, which aren’t displayed when using php 5 :

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare show_subscription_checkbox() (previously declared in E:HomepagePsykotikblogwp-contentpluginssubscribe-to-comments.php:25) in E:HomepagePsykotikblogwp-contentpluginssubscribe-to-comments.php on line 69

    Do you think that by any chance, you could code your plugin for php 5 ?

  19. Martin says:

    Hey guys! :)

    I’ve found a bug inside the code:

    Being blog-admin and clicking the “Manage subscriptions”-link will result in an URI which has [...].php?&ref=[...]

    So I digged through the code and changed the “manage_link”-function inside the “subscribe-to-comments.php”-file to the following:

    function manage_link($email=”, $html=true, $echo=true)
    {
    $link = get_bloginfo(’wpurl’) . ‘/wp-subscription-manager.php?’;

    if ($html)
    $amp = ‘amp;’;

    $link .= ‘ref=http://’ . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

    if($email != ‘admin’)
    $link .= ‘&’ . $amp . ‘email=’ . $email . ‘&’ . $amp . ‘key=’ . md5($email . DB_PASSWORD);

    if ($echo)
    echo $link;
    else
    return $link;
    }

    HTH,
    Martin.. :D

  20. Mark says:

    Thanks Martin. There’s no real negative consequence from ?&ref= but it does remind me that I should be using WordPress’ build-in functions for adding to the query string… should shrink the code down to use that.

    Closing comments here, because the plugin now has its own page.
