IO Error asks “Has America become fascist?” and posts a list of Dr. Lawrence Britt’s 14 defining characteristics of Fascism, annotated with links. The government doesn’t yet control the media (although television and radio are in serious danger), labor unions have not been abolished, and the police do not have unlimited power… but some of the other characteristics have definitely been met.

I’d like to do the same, with Marx’s Ten Planks of Communism.

  1. Abolition of private property and the application of all rent to public purpose
The Kelo vs. New London decision gives the government to take private property away and keep it for itself or give it to another private entity.
  2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax
Yep. The more you make, the higher tax percentage you pay, and the effect is not at all subtle.
  3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance
We’re maybe halfway there. The death tax can take more than 50%… sometimes 100%.
  4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels
The IRS can take property without due process, and is often used by politicians to target enemies.
  5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly
    The Federal Reserve.
  6. Centralization of the means of communication and transportation in the hands of the State
FCC, DOT, FAA… acronyms are fun.
  7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State, the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan
Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency.
  8. Equal liability of all to labor. Establishment of Industrial armies, especially for agriculture
    No.
  9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the population over the country
    Absolutely.
  10. Free education for all children in government schools. Abolition of children’s factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production.
Yeah, we have government education, but it’s not yet combined with industrial production.

So, not looking too good on that front either. I don’t see it as America moving towards Communism or Fascism specifically, but America moving away from its capitalistic, Libertarian roots: free people, free markets and small government.

  1. Hmm lets go down the checklist of Communism here shall we, go to this website, which basically shows Karl Marx’s 10 “Commandements” and our equivalent of EACH and EVERY one of them ok well maybe not, but how long do you think that’s going to last? America=Communism?

  2. IO ERROR says:

The police may not have “unlimited” power, but they’re certainly trying to get it.

    As for Communism:

Education in American in the past 100 years has been closely tied to the wants and needs of Big Business, something I was quite surprised to learn.

  3. No No No… far from it. Trust me! I appreciate what we have in America because I was not born here. I was born in a third world country full of chaos and poverty. Yes, I believe in paying my tax, because our government do put it to good use. Of course there are corruption… It is everywhere, but it is still much less here in America. Trust Me on this!

Andrew, I don’t think anyone here will argue that America is far ahead of most of the world when it comes to personal liberties. The problem is that Americans in the bast were more free than America today. Just because we’re still ahead of the game doesn’t mean we should rest on our laurels and let things go to hell.

In order for things to change the apathy in this country has to be destroyed. The problem is that most Americans aren’t paying attention. They are, by and large, happy. Which is a good thing, but happy people aren’t watchful.

Politicians are, literally, making a career out of keeping Americans happy and in the dark. I think two things would change a lot of that:

    1) A change from the income tax to something new. The FairTax is my personal choice.

    2) Term limits for federal legislators. Stop these folks from becoming career bureaucrats.

Once these two things happen we can start taking apart the rest of the nonsense our government has built up over the years.

Now any time these things are mentioned people are quick to say “that will never happen.” To which we need to respond, “Attitudes like that make ‘it will never happen’ a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

  5. Angela Renee Brown says:

Both public high schools in my city have implemented new dress codes similar to private schools. They say it will further education. They have had complaints of “inappropriate clothing”, but current unenforced dress codes should be addressed before this. I am led to believe the other reason, ” to keep them equal” is the leading reason. A lot of the students are calling them “little Hitler” and Nazis. Education is apparently lacking when people of all ages constantly refer to instances such as this as being “Nazi”, it’s clearly communist.

  6. Serge says:

Boy, what a stretch. Dr. Britt’s points are at least, well, to the point. Just to take a couple of yours:

    1) The Kelo v. New London took private property from one citizen and gave it to a private corporation. If this were Communism it would have been given to a Collective or the State directly. No, this is the corruption of the state by business interests. More akin actually to Fascism where the state uses the powerful monied interests and the powerful monied interests use the state and the little guy gets bupkus.

    3) The estate tax is being taken apart as we speak. Hardly a move toward Communism.

5,6,7) Are you joking? Under the current administration these are tools for private business to help themselves to our economy and resources. Getting a favorable financial climate, getting license to pollute. Or tools for those with a religious agenda to control what we get to see (via the FCC). Again, hardly Communism.

    9) What are you smoking? If you mean the take over of American farms by large scale agribusiness then I’ll have to point out, it’s private interests again. A good thing? Not so sure. Communism? Absolutely…not.

Look, you’re so hung up on Communism which is dead, dead, dead that you fail to see the real threat: a collusion of government and business to screw all of us, both libertarian and progressive. And that, at least to me, smells a lot more like Fascism. Just look who was in bed with or sympathized with Hitler: American Big Business like Ford, GM, DuPont, Alcoa and figures like Prescott Bush. Wake up and fight the right enemy or you are going to loose your country to Pat Robertson and Exxon/Mobil, not Mao or Stalin.

  7. kelpie says:

Interesting find indeed. First.. I’d point out that originally, the founding fathers were all for Communism (yes its true.) However most of the problems/points that were made above were corrupt officials and government bodies, not acts of Communism. (Greed is something very different.)

I agree that a limit on any officials ability to hold a position in office for long would help off set this. Some of you should be familiar with this phrase: “The government take from the needy, and give to the greedy.”

    Point number 2:
A heavy progressive or graduated income tax
Yep. The more you make, the higher tax percentage you pay, and the effect is not at all subtle.
Is moot, why? Because if this were true, those Richy Rich’s would have the same amount of money as I do. Those government officials would be in the same type of situation as I am. But they pawn off purchases as ‘donations’ and get many tax breaks (while I am here working 2 jobs and can hardly keep myself fed at times)

No, America isn’t going Communism, its going the route of bloody greed. Children who don’t go to the doctor because their families can’t afford it, but they ‘make to much’ to be on any form of care plan. Yeah.. sorry.. ranting… I’m sorry.

  8. Jonny says:

quote:”The Kelo v. New London took private property from one citizen and gave it to a private corporation. If this were Communism it would have been given to a Collective or the State directly.”

They take property from private citizens and thus destroy property rights -> COMMUNIST!

And they give it to corporate developers because they will pay more tax revenues to the state! -> COMMUNIST!

^^FoR the better common good. -> COMMUNIST!

^^Bigger government = better than individuals having rights because the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few,or the one. -> Star Trek/COMMUNIST!

    meh..THIS SUCKS!

  9. candle says:

There is NO WAY America is close to the idea communism. I think the ONLY underlying principle of capitalism is the idea of FREE Market. I truly don’t think those 10 rules will do much to make a country becoming a communist country.

  10. Tim Kibler says:

My wife grew up in Communist Romania. I have asked her impressions because I had this precise question rolling around within, mainly because of this enforced equalization of everyone and also because all the pop music sounds the same, all the celebrities look the same. We’re so encouraged to be all the same.
Anyway, she says we’re partly there, not fully, but nearly if not more than halfway. She cites the over-regulation of life and the tactics employed to bring everyone under forced equality – except for those in charge of course.

  11. I would agree, we are partly their. Eminent domain restricts our property rights and errodes them completely if we become unwanted by those that run the country. Also the civil rights court cases have erroded our right to associate with whom we want, another thing taken from us by communist like control over personal liberty. We can’t sell our property to whom ever we want anymore as of 1965, another right taken from us. We need to put on seat belts, not smoke in bars (in Minneapolis), buy products made in countries with virtual slave economies in our major department stores, such as Vietnam, China and Israel. And communist Russia and China were slave economies if there ever were one, gulags with millions of deaths every year totaling over 25 million in all prior to world war two seems to be proof at least to me of slave labor forced by the state. We also have police that don’t harm or even dare to touch criminals out of fear they themselves might go to jail, that is how it worked in communist Russia as well. And we are indoctrinated to support and accept degeneracy as normal, Christianity as evil and suppresive, patriotism as authoritarian, and our families as a pain and strain on our freedoms rather then the state as these things, when the state is actually the cause of our loss of all freedoms. There is a list of 45 declared goals set out by communists in 1963 that can be found on http://www.rense.com almost all of the goals have come to pass and we are being taxed, and displaced like never before to make sure we have no future less that of a demographically modified and weakened people soon to be turned into landless, skilless servants. This happens wherever communism takes hold, and that is what is happening here. We are becoming a communist state and most don’t realize it, don’t care and aren’t about to resist your or my right to freedom in our nation. It seems it will happen more completely within the next ten years, if we can’t stop it we will be under a state rule that will dwarf any slave society of the past five hundred years and we trully will feel the wrath of their equaliy. We will all be equal in misery, unhappiness, pain, and ignorance. That is what awaits us under communism, are any of us going to fight it?

The United States Government is ridiculous..Thier getting so damn greedy, the citizens that are only trying to make it the best they can, are suffering..If people didnt fear the government as much as they do, then maybe then, we could make a change for the better, but until then, we will forever be controlled, and have everybody elses hands in our pockets..and sadly, its only getting worse! 19. dajewfish says:

    Some minor points to share:

You only “own” your property as long as you pay the taxes, if you don’t pay, the state will take “your property”

Anyone accused of any “drug related” crime will find personal property (cars, money, guns, ect.) taken by the state without a trial required.

More then 50% of all US people are directly or indirectly dependent on local or fed gov for jobs and wages.

Freedom of speech is a thing of the past…tell someone that you “don’t like them” and find yourself charged with harassment, 90 days in jail and a fine.

Just keep talking on your cell phone, the gov listens to your boring conversations 24/7, no judge required!

These are just a few cases…wake up america…we ARE Getting a little closer everyday.

There is “stuff” going on within all governments, all countries. A lot we are not allowed to know. Population reduction is on the forefront is using others w/o their knowledge, much less their consent. Perhaps we’ve lived under the communist ideas for as long as we know? After all, keep in mind that they have more power than you can dream and if a feather is ruffled….believe you’ll pay….

  23. How would America look like under a Communist State?

  24. mike (subscribed) says:

I only know of 3 places in the entire world that do not have property taxes, so technically, just about the entire planet and about all of mankind is communist! Perhaps the Communist Manifesto has terribly corrupted the human heart itself!

  25. mike (subscribed) says:

Karl Marx was very deceitful and desparately hostile, probably a sock puppet of Satan himself, who really wanted to make life miserable and make sure that only rich and wealthy people ever had a roof over their heads. Replying to dajewfish’s post, by the way, actually you do NOT own property; that house you just finished spending 30 years paying for will never, ever be yours; it remains property of the government and you are merely renting that property, exactly as that big hairy global dictator clown, Karl Marx wanted. That is correct people, property taxes are really property rent, and the tax collector is really a rent collector.

  26. steve says:

America’s true identity has been hidden by our enemies!
Our forefathers, wrote our Constitution, based on God’s law.
America was born in one Day July 4th 1776
    Isaiah 66, 7-8(King James Version)
7Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.
8Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
Did you know that President’s Day was originally Washington’s Birthday? Does anyone remember him? You Know The Father of our country. The man who defied a Tyrant at the risk of his own life and that of his family. The man who if caught would have been hung as a traitor because he knew that there was a higher authority than that of evil tyrannical rulers, an authority that everyone will eventually be accountable to! An authority that he often gave all the credit praise and glory for the American Army overcoming overwhelming odds and defeating the strongest military power of his time! The very same authority that the communist of the world hate and despise because they are the egotistical arrogant self proclaimed masters of the universe, who expect you and me to bow down to! For History repeats itself and when communist and other tyrannical invaders destroyed a society from within, they first destroyed their history and their national pride, don’t let this happen remember our Fore Fathers and the risk they took for our Declaration of Independence! They knew exactly how to deal with Tyrants and we are their descendants, never let our children forget! I took an oath to protect my country against all enemies! Foreign and domestic!
A nation that does not remember where it came from, or what it’s foundations were, is easily destroyed, by it’s enemies, either from within, or without.
Over 60 years ago all American children learned in school, the story of our founding father George Washington, and how he miraculously survived the first major battle of the French and Indian War at the hand of God, 20 years before the signing of the declaration of independence. But thanks to the traitors, and infiltrators who hate God and America this story and many like it can no longer be taught in school to our children!
George Washington was only a 23 year old colonel at the time of the French and Indian war, along the banks of the Monongahela river, near Fort Duquesne , which is now Pittsburgh , Pa.
General Edward Braddock had heard of the prowess of George Washington, and asked him to become one of his aids. Washington ’s Mother feared for her son’s life, and tried to persuade him to stay home. Washington replied:
“God, to whom you commended me, madam, when I set out upon a more perilous errand, defended me from harm, and I trust He will do so now. Do not you?” Washington had done everything he could to inform Gen. Braddock of the tactics of the French & Indians, of getting down behind cover and firing only when a target was visible, but Braddock was insulted to be advised by an inferior officer.
On the morning of July 9th, 1755, Braddock and 1000 of his men, along with Washington and some of his Virgina regulars, crossed the southern shore of the Monongahela. Colonel Thomas Gage had a forward detachment of 350 soldiers, and 250 workers, and axemen, cutting a path. They were about 10 miles from Ft. Duquesne . It was around 1:00 pm. Gage and the forward detachment had just crossed a ravine, when scouts, and flanking parties came running back towards them, waving them off. Just then,
they were hit with a fusillade of musket balls. It immediately became chaos. The British could not see their enemy, for they were hidden behind rocks, hills, and trees. The rain of bullets kept coming in on them, dropping them like flies. Gage’s men fired back at the direction of the smoke plumes from their enemies rifles, but hit nothing but rocks, hills, and trees, merely splintering bark. Gage’s men continued to drop, and the horses, some of them wounded, began to panick, and bolt, carrying wagons full of their weapons and ammo, trampling men on the ground as they galloped off. The workers and axe men fled. For the Indians, who were crack marksmen, this was like shooting sitting ducks! Eventually what was left of Gage’s forward detachment began to retreat. Gen. Braddock, hearing the gunfire, left 400 troops along with most of the Virginia regulars, with Sir Peter Halkett, and most of the baggage. Braddock and his remaining troops, Washington , and a 100 or so, Virginia militia hastened towards the battle. The retreating men, collided with the advancing men, setting them to more confusion. All the while, the French and Indians continued to rain down musket balls upon them with deadly accuracy, and force.
It became an instant slaughter, as Braddock instructed his men to form columns (making them easy to hit, because of their red coats, and being in plain sight) like they were accustomed to doing in Europe . Musket balls rained down on them at will, cutting them down and anything else that gets in its way, with an instantaneous efficiency!
The 100 or so Virginia men, quickly adopted the Indian style of warfare, and dropped behind trees, and shot when only an enemy target was visible. Gen. Braddock was furious at this, and barked orders for them to get out from behind the trees. He saw this as cowardice, according to his rules of engagement. Braddock was undaunted in his task, bravely going to and fro amidst the shower of musket balls, trying to rally his troops. He had five horses shot out from under him. But for all his bravery, and reckless courage, he could not stem the tide. God’s hand can be seen protecting Washington this whole time. Because he was busy going back and forth across the battle field, completely exposed. Carrying out General Braddock’s orders. One soldier observing Washington , stated:
“I expected every moment to see him fall. Nothing but the superintending care of Providence could have saved him.”
Indians testified later, that they had singled him out, but their bullets had no effect on him. The chief suddenly realized that a mighty power must be shielding this man. “Stop firing!” he commanded. “This one is under the special protection of the Great Spirit.” A brave standing nearby stated, “I had seventeen clear shots at him…and after all could not bring him to the ground. This man was not born to be killed by a bullet.” They were convinced that an Invisible Power was protecting him. Washington had two horses shot out from under him. Had four bullet holes in his coat. Yet he had been untouched by bullet, or arrow. Scores of victims had fallen beside him, yet he went unharmed, protected by God’s hand! Every other mounted officer, had been slain! Eventually, Braddock was mortally wounded in the side, and fell. When this occurred, all the British troops fled in confusion. Washington gathered up what was left of the Virginia men, barely 30. The injured General, and covered the retreating British, leaving all the baggage, weapons, provisions, cattle, horses, behind for the enemy to plunder. General Braddock died three days later. In the aftermath, 714 British soldiers had been killed, 37 wounded. 26 officers out of 86 were killed, and 37 wounded. Only 30 men and 3 officers were killed, of the French and Indians! Upon Washington ‘s return to Fort Cumberland , He wrote a letter to his mother, to allay any fears she would have, as news of the rout had preceded them. On the same day (July 18, 1755) he also wrote to his brother, John A. Washington:
“As I have heard, since my arrival at this place, a circumstantial account of my death and dying speech, I take this early opportunity of contradicting the first, and of assuring you, that I have not as yet composed the latter. But, by the all-powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me!”
15 years later, an old respected Indian Chief, sought out council with Washington , when he heard that he was in the area. Through an interpreter he explained that he had set out on a long journey to meet Washington personally, and to speak to him about the battle 15 years earlier. He said:
“I am a chief and ruler over my tribes. My influence extends to the waters of the great lakes and to the far Blue Mountains . I have traveled a long and weary path that I might see the young warrior of the great battle. It was on the day when the white man’s blood mixed with the streams of our forest that I first beheld this chief. I called to my young men and said, mark yon tall and daring warrior? He is not of the red-coat tribe—he hath
an Indian’s wisdom, and his warriors fight as we do—him is alone exposed. Quick, let your aim be certain, and he dies. Our rifles were leveled, rifles which, but for you, knew not how to miss—’twas all in vain, a power mightier far than we, shielded you. Seeing you were under the special guard ship of the Great Spirit, we immediately ceased to fire at you. I am old and soon shall be gathered to the great council fire of my fathers in the
land of shades, but ere I go, there is something bids me speak in the voice of prophecy. Listen! The Great Spirit protects that man [pointing at Washington ], and guides his destinies—he will become the chief of nations, and a people yet unborn will hail him as the founder of a mighty empire. I am come to pay homage to the man who is the particular favorite of Heaven, and who can never die in battle.” 80 years after this battle, a gold seal that belonged to Washington , that bore his initials, was found on that very field, where he had been moving back and forth on horseback, relaying the orders for Braddock, amidst the hail storm of bullets. The gold seal had been
shot off of his body, by a bullet!
During the War for our independence in New Jersey at the Battle of Monmouth June 28th 1778 General Lee attacked the British General Clinton’s rear guard. General Clinton hearing the explosions and fire rushed back with several regiments. The reinforced rear guard drove the Americans back. General Lee feeling overwhelmed and confused ordered a general retreat. General Washington marched his men towards Monmouth as he began to hear the sounds of fighting Washington rushed forward and was shocked to be encountered by Lee’s retreating Army. Not only had Lee fled the field of battle but the enemy was in hot pursuit Washington hastily reorganized his troops. He ordered two regiments to charge forward, “stand fast my boys, and receive your enemy; the southern troops are advancing to support you!” he went dashing in to the middle of the field to get a better view of the advancing enemy, without any regard for his own safety. “He remained there some time upon his old English charger, while the shot from the British artillery were rendering up the earth all around him.” During this battle as many others Washington was exposed. He was speaking with an officer when “a cannon ball struck at his horse’s feet throwing dirt into his face, and over his clothes, the general continued giving his orders, without noticing the derangement of this toilette. The officers present, several of whom were of the party of the proceeding evening, looked at each other with anxiety. The chief of the medical staff, pleased with the proof of his prediction, and reminiscence what had passed the night before, pointed toward heaven, which was noticed by the others, with a gratifying smile of acknowledgment.” “The night before the campfire, Doctor Craik had expressed his great faith in the Indian’s prophecy. “Gentlemen,” he said, to some of the officers, “recollect what I have often told you, of the old Indian’s prophecy.” Yes, I do believe, a Great Spirit protects that man-and that one day or another, honored and beloved, he will be the chief of our nation, as he is now our general, our father, and our friend. Never mind the enemy, they cannot kill him, and while he lives, our cause will never die.”
Two days after the battle, Washington displayed his usual gratitude to Deity. In general orders he said: “The men are to wash themselves this afternoon and appear as clean and decent as possible . . . that we may publicly unite in thanks-giving to the Supreme Disposer of human events for the victory which was obtained . . . over the flower of the British troops.”
“Brothers . . . you do well to wish to learn our arts and ways of life, and above all, the religion of Jesus Christ. These will make you a greater and happier people than you are.”—George Washington—in a speech to the Delaware Chiefs.
More of this story can be read in The Bulletproof George Washington: by Charles D.
Barton, or The Real George Washington: The True Story of America’s Greatest Diplomat
    by Andrew M. Allison.
George Washington was never wounded in battle!

A rider on horseback, many years ago, came upon a squad of soldiers who were trying to move a heavy piece of timber. A corporal stood by, giving lordly orders to “heave.” But the piece of timber was a trifle too heavy for the squad.
“Why don’t you help them?” asked the quiet man on the horse, addressing the important corporal
“Me? Why , I’m a corporal sir!” Dismounting, the stranger carefully took his place with the soldiers.
“Now, all together boys—heave!” he said. And the big piece of timber slid into place. The stranger mounted his horse and addressed the corporal.
“The next time you have a piece of timber for your men to handle, corporal, send for the commander-in-chief.”
    The horseman was George Washington.

This is the story of our country and the enemy within doesn’t want us or our children
    to hear it!
“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”- George Washington, General, Commander in Chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolution and first President of the United States of America. Political Correctness a term first seen in Mao’s Little Red Book, a communist engendered abomination that is instituting censorship little by little.
Carl Marx, once wrote that, the goal of the Communists was to quote,. “enter into men’s minds and cast God down from his throne.”

Our forefathers, wrote our Constitution, based on God’s law.
“It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” George Washington, General, Commander in Chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolution (1775-83) and 1st US President (1789-97), 1732-1799)
This is the last stanza to our National Anthem when was the last time that you heard it?
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

  27. Richard Tast (subscribed) says:

There being a genuine difference between the two, Americans may be free, but they do not have liberty. Freedom is doing what is “permitted”; as long as one operates within the yellow lines of regulated control, one is free. An inmate in a prison has freedoms; he may choose to go to yard or stay in his cell; go to chow line of stay in his cell; although it is restricitive freedom ,it is till freedom of a sort: BUT, does the inamte have liberty? Liberty being the ability to go where and when one chooses. Can we travle where we desire, yes; as long as we have the proer papers, documents, insurance. Can we pursue an occupation we desire, yes, provided one obtains the proepr permit(s)/ licenses from the “STATE”. We have socialism, and it is growing, but it encroaches so slowly most beleive they are truly free. There is a saying that “there is no better slave than one who bleieves himself free”.

Steve has presented it well in his post, and as a man once told me years ago, “God had better do soemthing about the United States, and the world in general real soon, or He’s going to owe Soddom & Gomorrah one big apology”.

Damn straight we need to start saying, “Lets start a god damn revolution!”

The government will never ‘change’ if Americans don’t start changing their attitudes. Personally I think we need to load up on ammunition and fire power and march up to the white house.
five-to-one people. Some of us are going to have to die. There are five of us, to one of their “authorities.”

I know its nuts. But I’d love to see it happen.

The last one…Labor production has been combined with government schools. My high school has a program called “voc tech” aka vocational technology..Where you go to a place for half of your school day, to learn jobs such as Car Mechanic, heating and cooling, electrician, printing technology just to name a few. These classes were equal to 3 class credits so you still managed to have all your class credits each semester. But basically they were grooming us to be labor workers right out of highschool! I never knew this was one of the laws of communism.

I think that Communism versus Capitalism always misses the real point. Th USA system is neither. I moved here from Canada. In my experience from living in both countries, Canada was much more capitalist in the sense of free enterprise at least at the consumer/retail level. Take cable television providers. In every town I have lived in America there is only one company. Apparently this is due to ‘buying off the local politicians’. In Canada were I lived there were 3 providers providing excellent service at one third the cost. Here the service is crappy, but what can you do? I do not subscribe to cable here anymore because I will not pay triple what I should pay for bad service. And Charter went bankrupt shafting there creditors for 8 billion but are still in business… You could not pull that crap in Canada. And here they call it Capitalism.
The whole mortgage securitization blowup was a scam run by Congress and the banks to rip of the middle class of what little they have. And it was dressed up as helping them get into housing. Thats how the corrupt US government always dresses up the scams to screw the middle class and transfer money to the wealthy.
Have a look at “Rich Dad’s Conspiracy of the Rich” by R. Kiyosaki. The US has been structured to basically screw everyone but the rich. This is the deal between Congress and the wealthy. I do not think that was the original idea behind free enterprise, or the US constitution. In the next election do not vote for either corrupt establishment party.
