Wilma is Coming
The current projection for hurricane Wilma has it hitting near Naples, FL, which would spare me in Gainesville, my girlfriend in Tampa, and my family in the Sarasota area. Still, the hurricane is currently heading northwest, and is projected to make a 90° turn. Any deviations in that turn could have it hitting anywhere from the Florida Keys to Ocala… so I don’t presume to hope that we’ll all remain unaffected.
The next few days are going to be critical, as Wilma hits the Yucatan peninsula and makes a turn to the east. From what I’ve been hearing, Florida is well-prepared. We pretty much learned our “don’t depend on FEMA, take care of yourself” lesson in 1992 when Andrew hit, and the Katrina situation only reinforced that belief in local autonomy.
