Libby Indicted

The Scooter Libby indictment, summed up from the Left’s perspective:

Red rocket! Red rocket! Red rocket! … … Martha Stewart.

Red rocket! Red rocket! Red rocket! … … Bill Clinton.

Sort of a letdown, for those who were expecting Rove, Libby, and several others indicted for the alleged crime of exposing a CIA agent’s identity. But they couldn’t indict for that, and all they got was an indictment of one person who, in the course of a two-year investigation, allegedly contradicted himself.

But that’s not stopping Arianna “your crazy Aunt” Huffington from comparing Libby’s Clinton/Stewart hybrid of an alleged crime to hijacking a plane and sexual abuse.

That means if Libby is convicted on all charges and given the maximum sentence, he would be facing 30 years in prison.

By comparison, according to the latest United States Sentencing Commission guidelines, second-degree murder, kidnapping and demanding ransom, and hijacking an airplane all carry a maximum base sentence of less than 25 years. Hell, criminal sexual abuse will only get you 8-10 years.

Let’s review: hijacking a plane or second degree murder will get you 24 and a half years max. What Scooter did can get you 30.

Does that sound trivial to you?

Arianna Huffington: A Little Perspective on the Charges Against Libby

Welcome to Arianna “ether smells nice” Huffington’s quasi-conscious fantasy world where the punishment always matches the seriousness of the crime, so much that you can look at a potential prison sentence, and from it, figure out the relative severity of the offense. Did you ever stop to think that maybe the problem we have here is that raping a child gets you less time than giving contradictory testimony in the course of an investigation about a crime that can’t even be charged, there is so little evidence for it? No, of course not… someone in Bakersfield left the cap off a Magic Marker, so you have more important things to worry about like which limo service to use to get there.
