The UAE Deal
I’ve been in wait-and-see mode on this whole UAE ports deal, but after hearing both sides state their cases, I’ve decided I’m in favor of the deal.
The UAE isn’t perfect by any means, but they’re headed in the right direction, and have helped us out considerably in the past few years. Their role will not be security-related… that’s still handled by Americans.
Let’s cut to the meat here. The Ann Coulter crowd doesn’t want ragheads (their word) in our 7-11s, much less in charge of port business operations. Islam is the enemy! There are no good Muslims!
The Hillary Clinton crowd doesn’t want Bushitler (their word) doing anything that improves international relations, especially not with a Middle-Eastern country. Iraq is a quagmire! Bush makes the world hate us!
There are some opposers who don’t fit into those nice little boxes, but I’ve not seen many. Mostly, it’s just an amusing collection of opponents, temporary allied because for once, security-obcessed xenophobes and rabid Bush-bashers have a common target.
