I concur with Justin's thoughts. I've sat in Aerons before, for several long days. They're nice, but they don't move "with you" as much as the Embody does.

I spent some time at the HM showroom yesterday intending to try out different sized Aerons. But going between the Aeron and the Embody, I felt the Aeron was too restricting to your movements. Right off the bat it felt harder and the material kept the chair cold which wasn't ideal when first sitting down.

Then sitting in the Embody I noticed right away it's immediately comfortable. And moving around in it I never lost comfort. The back design of the Aeron keeps your arms from going back behind you, the Embody was designed to allow the arms full back-to-front motion. Amazing how much comfort and freedom that allows. And the way they created the back recline...it's so fluid compared to Aeron.

So while I went to look into the Aeron, I was sold on the Embody. The only reason I'm not sitting in one now is they have a bit of a turnaround at the local dealers (about 5 weeks) for a custom design. One dealer had 4 to choose from for immediate purchase but I'm weighing the compromise (desired color vs. how soon I can have one), especially when spending so much money. It'll hurt to spend almost double the Aeron when that already was a big purchase, but I think I'll be happy with it. Especially because I too sit 12+ hours a day.

Did you also try the Aeron while at the showroom? How would you compare them in comfort?

Wow what a chair! I thought the top part looks like an alien mask and the bottom looks like a space craft. Awesome chair but what a price! :)

I’ve been sitting on my $100 IKEA chair for a few months now, and can empathize with you about the many contorted positions it takes to tolerate it for more than a few hours.

nice

Michael Winner says you should always buy the most expensive thing you can afford. And he's right, of course. Happy Birthday!

Came across your review and delighted to see Embody living up to our ambitions in its design. Thanks for sharing your real world experience publicly--means a lot to Herman Miller employees to know our work is appreciated by the customer.

I'm in my wheelchair 14-16 hours per day. It's a very comfortable seat customized for me and it reclines. However, your chair sounds better. =)

BTW, I adore WordPress and thank you for a wonderful cms.

This may replace an iMac as my gift to myself when tax return time comes back around. Thanks for the detailed and real-world review of what sounds like a great investment.

It looks like something that should be on a starship somewhere. I'm jealous. I love my Aeron, even after 9 years of use, it's as good as day one, but this will definitely be my replacement in a few more years :)

I want to say congratulations - but people don't say that about chairs, right? ;)
