Keith Olbermann: Are Massachusetts voters racist?

Keith Olbermann

This has to be one of the most absurd things Keith Olbermann has ever said:

“The Republicans and the Tea Partiers will tell you what happens tonight with Scott Brown tonight, whether he wins or comes close, is a repudiation of Obama policies, and surely one of Obama’s policies from the viewpoint of his opponents is that it’s okay to have this sea change in American history, to have an African-American President. Is this vote to any degree just a euphemism the way state’s rights was in the 60s?”

Keith Olbermann

Let me see if I understand. Obama’s race isn’t a fact, but a policy? That doesn’t make sense… unless you’re trying to imply that people who vote against Obama’s policies are necessarily racist. See, now they’re not just people who disagree with him. They disagree with him on everything, including whether or not his racial makeup should preclude him from the presidency.

Nevermind that Obama carried Massachusetts 62% to 36% in the 2008 presidential elections. They’ve all suddenly turned back their clocks to the 60s and are voting to spite black people.

Man, fuck you. Not everything is an epic struggle with menacing undertones. Sometimes we just have shitty presidents that promote a shitty agenda, and people vote for the person who campaigns against that agenda.

I was watching MSNBC when Olbermann posed the question to Howard Fineman. So weird.

Olbermann clearly has a man crush on Obama, which leads to straw grasping when things go off the rails. And I can only guess that Fineman feels the need to kiss up to Olbermann, since he danced around the proposition of racist MA voters rather than reject it outright. In fact, Fineman went on to suggest that pickup trucks are a political dog whistle to racists. Heh.

A pickup truck would be the perfect vehicle for transporting a giant kerosine-soaked cross to a black person’s lawn. And there’s plenty of space for white power bumper stickers.

When Rush or O’Reilly make an off-base comment, it’s plastered on Digg, Reddit, etc all over the web.

Yet when someone like Olbermann says something completely stupid – no one says anything.

I hate mainstream media with a passion.

I’m glad *someone* points this shit out.

  3. What was Fineman’s response?

I can’t stand Olbermann and crap like this is why.

Good God I hate that fucking PRICK!

I predicted that the seat would go republican, because Massachusetts’ only liberal population is in certain parts of Boston. The rest of the state is lily white and conservative. They have been waiting for Ted’s seat ever since he declared he had cancer. The only reason that even he was able to retain his seat is because he is a Kennedy. It has never mattered that his politics are different from the majority of the population of the state, because he was Irish Catholic he was forgiven for his liberalism. Doesn’t anyone remember the racial riots of the 1970s from the Irish Catholics of Boston? Well, I do. My husband didn’t even want us to go into certain parts of Boston, because he was afraid of the racists who lived there. He is white and I am black. His mother lived in Boston and he lived there for a few years. It was enough. I grew up in New York City and am not afraid of whites, but I respected his fear for my safety. I was not surprised at all. There aren’t many blacks or any other non-European nationalities outside of Boston or its surrounding cities. Why?

Boston area and some high income areas definitely do have some racism. I lived there for 10 years.
