Subscribe to Comments 2.1
Subscribe to Comments 2.1 is a plugin that allows commenters on your blog to check a box before commenting and get e-mail notification of further comments. It is one of the most popular WordPress plugins out there for the simple reason that it helps foster a community around your blog by encouraging commenters to come back and stay engaged in the dialog.

- Users cannot enter a random e-mail into the subscription manager and modify someone else’s subscriptions
- In order to modify subscriptions, users need to use a special link, given in notification e-mails, and printed in the comments form as long as they have their comment cookie

- In the subscription manager, users can request that their notification address be changed for all their subscriptions
- Special link is sent to the old address for verification
- Once clicked, their e-mail address will be changed instantly for all their comments

- No modification of comments form needed for WP 1.5+ (supported themes)
- For users who want custom placement of the checkbox/link to subscription manager, this can be done with one simple function call, placed anywhere in the comment form

Version 2.1 Update
Version 2.1 of Subscribe to Comments has a feature that people have been begging me to implement for many months: you can view the list of people who are subscribed to posts on your blog, and you can also see a list of the most “subscribed” posts. Also in this version is a new one-file install. You just put subscribe-to-comments.php in your /plugins/ directory, activate, and you’re done. This version will work on WordPress versions from 2.0.6 through 2.3.1 (highest tested).

- 2.1.2 Fixed a few bugs that’d send bad notifications (thanks Donncha!), cleaned up some code and moved to using proper WP escaping functions
- 2.1.1 WordPress 2.2 compatibility! Also note that support for
attribute_escape()is needed, so if you get errors about that, upgrade to the latest version in your branch - 2.1 big update, fixing a few potential XSS holes, and misc error messages… see above for details

Danielsemper, this is probably because of WP-Cache. I’ll have to think about how I could get the two plugins to interoperate so that changes in comment subscription status refreshes the page. Maybe if I set a “subscribed” flag to the cookie.

My WP cache plugin is disabled
Even if my WP cache plugin is disabled, since I’ve upgraded WP from 2.0.3 to 2.1, I can’t see my recent theme changes as before, for me it seems that WP 2.1 has already some cache function working as the plugin. I have noticed this in a blog with WP2.0.6 or 7 as well..
All this only with Firefox.
Yea, i have the problem with the cache plugin enabled. Even after I unsubscribe it stays the same.
Maybe if the subscribe link and manage links where JS calls that polled the system?

Danielsemper, you may have disabled the plugin portion of WP-Cache, but that just disables the management screen of WP-Cache. It is still running, I checked your site and verified that it is still running (viewing the HTML source reveals this) You must edit
wp-config.phpand remove the line that enables the cache. Or, re-activate the plugin, go to Options > WP-Cache, and click the disable button there. THEN deactivate the plugin.WP 2.1 has no cache function that would prevent you from seeing theme changes.

I am using the subscribe without leaving a comment option, and spam bots are subscribing to a lot of posts (for reasons i cant figure out, perhaps the bots are stupid and just fill out any email field they find)whenever a legit comment happens i get 20-30 bounced emails (the spambots never leave real emails) is it possible to unsub each fake email, but there are hundreds of them, is there an easy way to bulk edit the subscriptions?

The blog works fine, as do the comments and everything. It’s been upgraded a couple of times from WP version 1.5 to 2.0. I don’t get it. What should the permissions fot the database be if the blog is working fine already?

I just had to go into the mySQL database for my blog and delete over 4000 spam emails which were input through the “subscribe without leaving a comment” option. I looked all afternoon for where those emails were hidden in my database before I finally found them.
We really *really* need an option to edit (DELETE!) large groups of emails without needing to go to in our server’s PHP MyAdmin and doing it by brute force.
I would love to keep using the plug in, but I don’t ever again want to do what I had to do today. Without some sort of recourse against a future similar spam attack … I just can’t take the chance.

I have noticed a greater influx of spam comments lately, but not from any registered users. So…. Fortunately my spam filter plugins, Akismet and Spam Karma 2 have been doing their job, unlike my Subscribe to Comments plugin, which doesn’t seem to work properly. I’ll keep you posted! [IMG :)]

It comes with its own menu where you drag, drop and order your widgets as you want to them to be displayed. Subscribe To Comments Subscribe to comments simply adds the check box way down where a reader enters a comment. It adds a stickiness to the blog as it sends an e-mail whenever someone else has replied to a user’s comment.
