Antispam Collateral Condolences

This plugin notifies people when the comment they just left is moderated or marked as spam. The method of notification can be either a Javascript popup, or an HTML notification in the comment area. You can choose whether spam comments, moderated comments, or both will result in the notification. This is especially useful for spam comments, as the human author will know to contact you and have you rescue the comment from the spam bin.

in the end, failed badly. Then I asked for plugin help on IRC, but nobody noticed. So I’m throwing the request out to the audience here to see what y’all can do. Thanks to anyone who can help! Update 5 Feb 07: Mark Jaquith has come through with Antispam Collateral Condolences, a plugin that does exactly what I requested. It can put up the warning either as a JavaScript alert box, or a message embedded in the page upon returning them to the post on which they commented. Totally, completely awesome. You rock, Mark!

  22. jeremyclarke (subscribed) says:

Hey, I’m just trying this for the first time and getting a lot of really wonky behavior, like white screens after submitting a spammy comment and seeing the ‘you are spammed’ message at times when the spam queue doesn’t have the comment i’d submitted.

I use ReCaptcha, any known issues with using your plugin with ReCaptcha?

  23. Mark says:

    Jeremy,

They both use the comment_post_redirect filter. They’re likely fighting over it. Doesn’t the ReCaptcha plugin make my plugin moot? I mean, if they have the ability to just retry the CAPTCHA until they get it right, there doesn’t seem to be a need to notify them of comments marked as spam.
