Subscribe to Comments is a robust plugin that enables commenters to sign up for e-mail notification of subsequent entries. The plugin includes a full-featured subscription manager that your commenters can use to unsubscribe to certain posts, block all notifications, or even change their notification e-mail address!

Installation
- Put subscribe-to-comments.php into [wordpress_dir]/wp-content/plugins/
- Go into the WordPress admin interface and activate the plugin
- Optional: if your WordPress theme doesn’t have the comment_form hook, or if you would like to manually determine where in your comments form the subscribe checkbox appears, enter this where you would like it:
<?php show_subscription_checkbox(); ?> - Optional: If you would like to enable users to subscribe to comments without having to first leave a comment, place this somewhere in your template, but make sure it is outside the comments form. A good place would be right after the ending
</form>tag for the comments form:<?php show_manual_subscription_form(); ?>

Q. How can I tell if it’s working?
A.
- Log out of WordPress
- Leave a comment on an entry and check the comment subscription box, using an e-mail that is NOT the WP admin e-mail address or the e-mail address of the author of the post.
- Leave a second comment using a different e-mail address than the one you used in step 2 (it can be a bogus address).
- This should trigger a notification to the first address you used.
Q. I’d like the subscription checkbox to be checked by default. Can I do that?
A. Not anymore. But the checkbox status will be remembered on a per-user basis.
Q. My subscription checkbox shows up in a strange place. How do I fix it?
A. Try unchecking the CSS “clear” option. Beyond that, you’re on your own with CSS positioning.

thank’s a lot for the great plug-in. I have one issue with it I’d like to share: after having localised the language of the text next to the check box in the word press settings into german, the check-box is pre-opted in. De-installing and re-installing the plug-in did not change anything. I wouldn’t like to force a pre-opt in to my readers – is this a new bug, or do you have any idea how I can get back to not-pre-opt in?

Anyway this could be “fixed” to work in “moderation mode”?
Currently if you subscribe to a post you are not added to the subscriber list until your comment has been approved.
Which means you can very easily miss a ton of comments if the blog administrator has not yet approved you comment and thus subscription status.

Has anyone tried running “Subscribe to Comments” on WP 2.5.1?
I’ve uploaded subscribe-to-comments.php into the WP-Content/Plugins folder, and I’m able to activate it, but it does not appear in my list of selectable widgets.
Any idea what I’m doing wrong, or is this version of the widget just not compatible with WP 2.5.1?

Oops! This is not a widget! Stupid me. OK, I found everything where it should be, but I’m still having some problems.
For the record, I’m trying to set up Subscribe To Comments v2.1.2 within WP2.5.1, but it doesn’t seem to be working right.
I followed the (simple) installation instructions, then ran the test in the readme file. Using some sample accounts that I created, I wrote a new post, submitted a comment, then replied to that comment.
However, problems occur when a “subscriber” attempts to select manage subscriptions, an error occurs stating that “You may not access this page without a valid key”. Also, Subscribe To Comments doesn’t seem to differentiate between a subscriber and an author. By that I mean that in my test, when the author looks at his own reply, the plugin should recognize him as the author – However, the plugin is reporting him as a subscriber.
Any idea about what’s going on?
