Who knew that it was possible for Matt Mullenweg to be my hero twice in one day? The creator of WordPress, the weblog package that now powers this website, has created something really clever with the help of Dougal Campbell.
Ping-O-Matic is yet another service that accepts a “ping” from your blog software when you update your site. What makes this different from all of the other sites that you may be pinging (such as blo.gs, blogrolling.com, weblogs.com, etc) is that Ping-O-Matic is a pinger of pingables. Ping-O-Matic pings all of those little services when you ping it. As you probably know, pinging many services can really slow down your posting time, especially in Movable Type. Now, you only have to enter in one ping URI, and Ping-O-Matic takes care of the rest!
Here are the services it pings, as of this writing:
- Weblogs.com
- Blo.gs
- BlogShares
- Technorati
- Root Blog
- My Yahoo!
- PubSub.com
- BlogChatter
- GeoURL
- BlogRolling
- BlogStreet
- RubHub
And here is the XML-RPC URI to enter into your blog software: http://rpc.pingomatic.com/

OK Mark,
So let me get this right. I go to their site I enter my details and the sites I would like to ling from their list. I add http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ when I am pinging from movabletype and ping o matic does the rest for me?
Morgs
Oh, you are online. I am going to ask you now. Ciao
Mark says
You only need to go to that website to enter a manual ping. In order to have your blog ping them every time, you merely enter that XML-RPC URI in the appropriate place in your blog’s configuration page.
