Just now coming up on 2 full days without power here in Gainesville. It’s rather frustrating when you can look out your window and see residences and businesses with their lights on.
So not only was all of the food in my refrigerator ruined… last night, I couldn’t find a single business where I could eat, because the County imposed a curfew. A curfew which was lifted not one hour after every restaurant in town had closed… Because of the curfew.
I ate half a loaf of bread. Plain. I’m not too proud to do that.
The building next to mine has a massive oak tree leaning on its roof. The surrounding streets are a labyrinth of downed power lines. Many stoplights in Gainesville are not functioning, and everyone is driving like a maniac. Tempers are running high; At Perkins this morning, there was a sign that begged customers not to yell at their staff, many of whom were also without power or water.
Right now I’m making the best of the situation, and doing as much cleaning and organizing that I can do without power.
Hope the rest of you Floridians fared well.

“Man cannot live by bread alone.”
Just consider this sensitivity training for the hardships that homeless people and soldiers have to go through. ;p
