Alpha Patriot has moved servers and converted to a dynamic Movable Type install.
As I said in my last post, my geek friend has moved my Movable Type site to a new ISP (Speakeasy) and made it totally dynamic. He did all sorts of magical things that I am only dimly aware of and certainly do not understand.
The biggest up side seems to be no more rebuilds. Publishing a new post takes a couple of seconds instead of the 30 to 45 that it used to take (and the bigger the blog got, the longer it took).
The down side is no plugins. Literally. I can’t find anything that I need that will work on a PHP version of MT. Blacklist, Conversation Killer, SCode — all intended to reduce spam, and all use perl.
Even though I didn’t get a lot of them, I really, really miss comments.
And don’t even mention Typekey. I don’t like making people register and Typekey seems to have its own set of problems. I remain unimpressed.
AlphaPatriot: MT PHP
Hey, what about WordPress? Oh…

I’m still looking for a way to stop spam on an MT blog running dynamically (and no, I’m not ready for WordPress). Until I find a decent way to combat comment spam, comments will remain closed.

You may not be ready for WordPress, but rest assured, she’s ready for you. 🙂 And if you ever change your mind, I do MT to WP conversions for reasonable prices.

Alpha Patriot:
You’re missing out. WordPress is much better than Movable Type. Mark does have reasonable prices and he does great work.

I’ll second that statement.
Also, I emailed the Alpha Patriot (a couple of days ago) directly and told him to get with Mark. There’s just no reason to put up with MT-nonsense.

Spread the good word. 🙂

Probably, in time. When I do I will certainly keep you in mind. I feel indebted to you anyway because of your Day by Day Vertical Script that I use.
But for now I think I’ll just stay in my comfort zone. 😀
