Bruce Schneier on what is probably the most important lesson of the last decade that we failed to learn:
Despite fearful rhetoric to the contrary, terrorism is not a transcendent threat. A terrorist attack cannot possibly destroy a country’s way of life; it’s only our reaction to that attack that can do that kind of damage. The more we undermine our own laws, the more we convert our buildings into fortresses, the more we reduce the freedoms and liberties at the foundation of our societies, the more we’re doing the terrorists’ job for them.
ColtonCat says
Very true words; and a lesson that has been learned by those who perpetrate these attacks on our way of life, and one that has not been learned, by the citizens of our countries, but more importantly not by those in charge of defending our countries.
The result, we are not only systematically reducing the freedoms and liberties that underlie our society, but at the same time causing incalculable economic damage to our society.
